Need to Report an Absence or Request Early Release?

When a student must be absent from school, please report your student's absence by calling/emailing the attendance office prior to 10 a.m. the day of the absence. All documentation (parent notes, doctor’s notes, appointment verifications, etc.) must be submitted online within Focus, the student information system (see instructions below). Any absence not cleared within the allotted time (three days) will become an unexcused absence. Communication received from a parent after 3 days will result in the absence remaining unexcused.

Missing School: It Adds Up!

When your child attends school regularly, they have the opportunity to excel academically and to establish a positive daily routine for learning. Regular attendance allows for students to be involved in lessons, develop relationships with their peers, and make the most of their education. It also gives teachers the opportunity to assess each student and to effectively plan ahead. Excessive absences can lead to students missing out on important information or falling behind in their studies. Regular school attendance is an important indicator of your child’s performance and success as they grow into adulthood.

Simply put, absences add up.

2 days absent a month:

20 days missed each year
25 hours of missed math each year
42.5 hours of missed reading and writing each year
Nearly 1.5 years of missed instruction by graduation

4 days absent a month:

40 days missed each year
50 hours of missed math each year
85 hours of missed reading and writing each year
Nearly 3 years of missed instruction by graduation

Uploading Absence Notes into Focus

Uploading from a computer:

You can upload your child's absence notes (parent letter or doctor's notes) by visiting https://birdville.focusschoolsoftware.com.

Navigate to the Focus Website & enter in your username & password. Click “Login”
If you have forgotten your password, please select “Parents: Forgot Password?”
Once logged in, select the down arrow to the right of the student’s name on the left-hand side & then click “Absences”.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see the unexcused absence & date of absence. Select either the “Scan”, “Upload”, or the “Take Photo” option & follow their prompts.

Student Registration

Gather Required Registration Documents

You will need to have the following items ready to upload when completing the online registration for your student.

Previous School's Transcript/Report Card or Withdrawal Record
Birth Certificate
Social Security Card
Immunization Record
Current Proof of Residency (in parent name, dated within 30 days)
- Water Bill, Electric Bill, Gas Bill, Lease Agreement, Homeowners Insurance, Mortgage Payment
Parent ID

Guardianship will need to be verified with a Parent ID, along with a Birth Certificate or Court Documents/CPS Placement letter or our BISD Power of Attorney Form if you are not a parent on the birth certificate.

Click "I DO NOT have an account on the Parent Portal." (top left button) You will then create your own Username and Password.

If you encounter any difficulties during the registration process or have questions, please contact the attendance clerk for registration support.

Student Withdrawal Process

Verify Parent/Guardian ID: Please visit the attendance office with your driver's license or ID for parent verification.
Receive Withdrawal Form: After verification, we will provide you with a withdrawal form to fill out.
Return School Property: Bring the following items to complete the withdrawal process:
- Your student's Chromebook (if applicable) and charger.
- Any school uniforms.
- Library books.
Submit the Withdrawal Form to the New School: The withdrawal form needs to be taken to your student's next school to start their enrollment process.
Enrollment Deadline: You have 10 days to enroll your student in their next school. After 10 days, a truancy officer will contact you if enrollment has not occurred.
